BALLET BEAUTIFUL

Beauty

Today I’m going to write about something that’s very close to my heart: ballet. Growing up I danced ballet professionally and preformed in smaller choregraphies – I’ll never forget when we had Birgit Cullberg in the audience and afterward I remember she came backstage and I got her autograph. Then getting into University and start working definitely had the ballerina dream put on a setback. Deep down I had a dream of working at Wall Street and then later for the SATC shoes. However my banking time was a short-lived experience and after that I finally got my dream job in New York. Here I finally managed to go back to ballet at Alvin Ailey though working a lot made it impossible to catch the weekly classes. Later on moving back to Stockholm I returned to my previous school Balettakademin and managed to go once a week for a year. However now it’s been nada for a long time and I actually feel really sad about it. I’ve come to realize that the piano and motions of expressions to it actually is like therapy for your mind and body. When reading about Ballet Beautiful in the Swedish magazine Styleby it was like a revolution to me – I got so happy! Mary Helen Bowers the former ballerina who’s behind it makes it possible to take ballet classes online anywhere in the world, which makes it all so much more flexible and workable. Now this motivated me to go back because honestly speaking you don’t feel super hot when slipping into your old dancing clothes that use to fit perfectly. Ok I’ve realized that I’m not 20 anymore and a woman’s body changes which is normal. That’s why I’m starting next week and I can’t explain with words how excited I am!! If you don’t want to do 1 hour classes you should try her 10-15 minutes DVDs or streaming online. It’s perfect for mornings or evenings and I promise you it will show results after just a week. She was recently featured in the Net-a-Porter’s latest edition of THE EDIT where you can try her latest work-out class if curious. In the end it’s not about changing your food habites and going on a diet to feel happy. Ballet simply makes anyone strong and slim (mind and body). Hope you enjoy your Wednesday now or as we say in Sweden this specific day “Glad Valborg”!
